I paint because I am compelled to do so by the places that I see and my reaction to them. My interest in the environment led to my graduate research at Brown University on the effect of water contamination events on children and their communities. In parallel, I have studied painting with excellent fine artists for nearly 20 years who have greatly influenced my outlook as well as my skills. As a student of two disciplines, science and art, I paint to offer my observations as a communication without the interference of words.
I sign my paintings, “Radix” with the Chinese character for root beneath it. Radix is my family name and it is also a statement: radix means root in Latin, and I find it to be a wonderful image that is a link between earth, water and life.
